Social volunteering: the heart of solidarity in Foligno and beyond

The importance of volunteering for our community

Volunteering represents one of the purest forms of altruism and dedication towards others. In fact, those who decide to volunteer choose to dedicate part of their time and skills voluntarily, that is, without receiving financial remuneration, to help others or contribute to socially useful causes. Through volunteering, individuals of all ages and backgrounds can actively contribute to the well-being of society, improving the quality of life of less fortunate people and strengthening bonds within communities. Volunteering is therefore a very precious activity that deserves full recognition and validation.

Social volunteering: what it is and what distinguishes it from other forms of volunteering

Volunteer possibilities are diverse, including social assistance, education, environmental protection, relief in emergency situations, and much more. Social volunteering is one of these and stands out from others because it specifically focuses on bringing value to the community through actions aimed at improving social well-being and reducing inequalities. Social volunteering is mainly distinguished by its commitment to supporting causes of social importance, such as helping people in difficulty, promoting human rights, fighting poverty and social exclusion. Unlike other forms of volunteering which may be more focused on specific objectives or particular sectors, social volunteering embraces a vast range of issues linked to improving people's quality of life and building a more equitable and supportive society.

Third sector bodies play a fundamental role in the context of social volunteering, contributing significantly to the promotion and management of volunteering initiatives that aim to improve the well-being of society and acting as spokespersons for the most difficult people in the communities. By facilitating the involvement of volunteers and coordinating their activities, they act as a bridge between those who wish to dedicate their time and resources to the cause and the beneficiary communities or groups. This intermediation role is crucial because it ensures that volunteers' resources and energies are directed towards the real needs of society, thus maximizing the positive impact of social volunteering initiatives.

Our precious volunteers and their commitment to the community of Foligno and beyond

At our Foundation, we now count on 50 male and female volunteers, who offer valuable support and a fundamental contribution to our initiatives in support of the Foundation's solidarity projects. In addition to being at our side during events, most of them dedicate their time, two or three Saturdays a month, to preparing meals at the canteen of the Diocesan Caritas of Foligno. The canteen service is an initiative born from the will of Valter Baldaccini, to which we give continuity today through the Foundation.

Each volunteer donates their time and energy to improve the lives of others, through seemingly small but significant gestures. This commitment is of fundamental importance for us and reflects the desire and ideal of Valter Baldaccini, whose commitment to helping others was an essential value for the well-being of the community, extending even beyond the borders of Foligno.

In fact, with a group of volunteers made an up-close visit to the Lescok House and the socio-educational project that we carry out in Kosovo. This year, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of Valter Baldaccini's passage to eternal life, we will return.

We would like to express sincere thanks to all our volunteers for their invaluable commitment and generosity shown in supporting the activities of our Foundation.

If you also want to join our Foundation mission and become one of our volunteers, write us an email at info@fondazionevb.org.
