At Christmas, choose to be close to the most vulnerable families

For the Valter Baldaccini Foundation, the "neighbors" aren’t just those who have had the misfortune of being born in the poorest areas of the world, but also those who are close to us every day and face difficult times.

For this reason, the socio-educational project With the families was born almost two years ago, a network project composed of various organizations in our territory, designed to stay close to all those parents who are facing the arrival of a new life with difficulty and who is giving concrete help to 13 families.

As happened to Enrica, the mother of little Lucia, who from the first months of pregnancy,co asked for help at the Consultorio because she didn't feel like raising a child and thus began to be part of the project.

"Enrica is very happy with our weekly meetings - the educators Cecilia and Annachiara wrote in their diary who meet her mother and child every day - instead for Lucia, her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, it was not easy to get used to our presence. But slowly we grew closer.

One afternoon, after the months of lockdown in which we have always been in contact with video calls, we decide to meet in the park and we begin to talk: during the conversations there are still many insecurities and fears, but together we reflect on these uncertainties and on how to transform them into possibilities.

We tell each other about the progress made so far and the changes that have taken place both in the child and in her: for the first time today Enrica bicycled with her child to the park and now Lucia can get on the slide and play without worries.
We look at Lucia who is building a puzzle, she seems calm and Enrica, speaking to her, is convinced that she can do it: despite her fears and anxieties she can trust her abilities and those of Lucia ".

What happens to each of us during the first year of life determines and conditions who we will be and how we will act. Therefore it is essential to be close to these mothers and fathers who find themselves going through this delicate moment.
