Marzia and Letizia are two of our volunteers who, once a month, go to the canteen of the Caritas Diocesana in Foligno to cook a hot meal for those who don’t have the resources.
For them, being a volunteer is the joy of making themselves available to others, but also of sharing an experience with friends and colleagues. Being a volunteer is truly an enriching experience. Here's what they told us:
"It is nice to be there for others and when I saw that there was the opportunity to have this experience, I was very enthusiastic about it - Letizia told us. Always in my small way and with my family we are alongside people and friends who need our support. The decision to extend this to a larger community has given me a lot of joy as well as sharing time with my colleagues outside the workplace and having the opportunity to get to know each other better.”
“It is always exciting and fulfilling to know that you have made someone happy even if you don't know them. I found the experience at the CARITAS canteen - Marzia wrote to us - very useful for my inner growth. I have always felt the urge to truly feel part of a society that has become insensitive in many ways towards the weakest social strata, marginalizing them and in some cases, unfortunately, denigrating them. I realized how a daily routine for us, which is often automatic and obvious, such as eating a hot meal, isn’t easy for other people. The latter live in the uncertainty of tomorrow, simply relying on better times, which especially in 2020, have not arrived. For the new year I hope, given the difficulties that all of humanity is facing due to the pandemic, that each of us will develop a greater sensitivity towards those who fight day after day for a dignified existence. I also hope more people can embrace the experience of volunteering to give hope to those who no longer have it and feel an integral part of a world that is still generous in many ways!".
