Life is not easy if you were born in Mathare, the largest slum in Nairobi, Kenya’s capitol.
Jackline, who is only seventeen, knows this very well, even if she seems older. Her mother died when she was very young. Her father remarried and she grew up with his new wife, three sisters and four brothers.
She found herself in a large family, where finding enough to eat was difficult. She lived by her wits in a small sheet metal shack, without electricity or running water, where only a thin and battered door separates you from crime, drug dealing and prostitution.
A year ago Jackline met a boy and her situation went downhill. Still a minor she became pregnant, the father of the child abandoned her and she found herself alone with little Alicia, because her family does not have the possibility to provide for another mouth to feed.
Her life became increasingly difficult, so in search of help she knocked on the door of the nuns of Mathare and of Joab Omoto, one of our contacts for projects in Kenya.
How to donate support to Jackline through the Foundation's project
Jackline was able to become part of the socio-educational project "A job for the young mothers of Mathare", created to give many very young mothers like Jackline the opportunity to train, attend a local craft workshop, receive psychological support, and help for the shopping for essential goods.
Concrete help is possible if you stand by her with a donation. Become Jackline's lucky star this Christmas. Light up her future, donate now.
Thanks to you, Jackline will have the opportunity to learn a job and start a journey towards independence, to build a better future for herself and little Alicia.
