A training course dedicated to Augmentative communication and inbooks was held on Saturday, February 16th. Inbooks are special books that have had all the words translated into symbols which allow many children with communicative difficulties to learn to read and discover new worlds.
Parents, librarians, educators, social workers, and teachers were able to spend a day in training with Dr. Laura Bernasconi (professional educator) and Dr. Grazia Zappa (psychologist) from the Sovrazonale Center of Augmentative Communication.
The theory lessons were alternated with practical exercises which gave the participants an opportunity to learn about the inbooks and their infinite potential, and to learn how to use them in their professional and home environments.
Unfortunately, space was limited and not everyone who wanted to participate was able to register. However, we are very happy about the level of interest shown and that so many people are receptive to this concept. We hope that this was just the first edition!
The course was part of the inbook project: the books that include. The Foundation started promoting them last year in partnership with the Foligno Library and the Foligno Kiwanis Club.
Only one stage is remaining prior to the close of the project: delivering all the new books we were able to buy and have made to the Inbook section of the library thanks to the valuable support of our donors.
